Hyundai Motor America’s non-profit has donated nearly $60 million in total donations to support childhood cancer research since inception; Kapi’olani Medical Center has received $245,000 from Hope On Wheels since 2009

 

On Thursday, January 3, Hyundai Hope On Wheels® will award Kapi’olani Medical Center for Women and Children of Honolulu with a $75,000 Hyundai Scholar Grant to Dr.

HONOLULU – ToyotaHawaii.com – Toyota Hawaii is inviting all Hawaii student artists age 15 years and younger to create a drawing of “Your Dream Car” for TOYOTA’s 7th Dream Car Art Contest. Hand-drawn entries must be submitted by February 25, 2013 to any Toyota dealer in the state or mailed to Toyota Dream Car Art Contest, P.O. Box 2788, Honolulu, Hawaii 96803-2788.

FIRST INSURANCE COMPANY OF HAWAII NAMES JEFF SHONKA SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER

 

HONOLULU – The First Insurance Company of Hawaii (FICOH) board of directors has elected Jeff Shonka senior vice president, chief operating officer (COO). Shonka joined FICOH in 2002 as its chief financial officer. With this promotion, Shonka has assumed responsibility for key operational areas of the company, including Claims, Personal and Commercial Lines, Legal, Surety & Fidelity, and First Risk Management Services (FiRMS), a subsidiary brokerage operation for non-standard risks.

“Jeff is an invaluable member of the executive team who during his 10 years with First Insurance has not only earned the respect and trust of our officers, but of his department, our company and other industry leaders in Hawaii,” said Allen Uyeda, president and CEO of First Insurance.

Local party boy Lance Rae and Esme Nii, founder of Moms in Hawaii, will be ringing in the New Year with local band The Deadbeats, east coast time, at the first annual Pineapple Drop at the Town Center of Mililani. At precisely 7:00 p.m. a seven-foot tall, four-foot round lighted pineapple will drop from the 60 foot flag pole near the Consolidated Theatres to coincide with the ball drop in Times Square.

"It's the perfect way for families with little kids to enjoy the fun and festivities of New Year's Eve without having to stay out late," says Chrissy Wood, assistant property manager at the Town Center of Mililani.

HONOLULU (December 14, 2012) – The race is on!  The public has the opportunity to decide which Hawaii non-profit will win an additional $5,000 from Subaru Hawaii during its “Share the Love” sales event. In addition to the $5,000 bonus to one lucky non-profit, Subaru Hawaii will donate $250 to a group of great causes for every new vehicle sold by December 31 -- Big Brothers Big Sisters Hawaii, Hawaii Wildlife Fund, Oahu SPCA, SPCA Maui and Hawaii Island Humane Society.

 

One arrested, one on the run after second Don Quijote robbery

WAIPAHU, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow)- One man was arrested after an armed robbery took place at the Don Quijote in Waipahu late Wednesday night.

A 46-year-old male was taken into custody and is under investigation for robbery.

Another man is still on the run.

It is the second armed robbery to take place at the same Don Quijote location in three days. Both robberies were performed with similar tactics. 

The first robbery that took place Monday night involved two men in their twenties who pulled a gun on security who drove away in a dark pickup truck.
